The Museum of the Marine and the Marine Corps League are proud to announce the League's sponsorship of the Museum's Memory Zones.

The mission of the Museum of the Marine is to honor the history of the Marine and to show his humanity by sharing personal stories in historical context. The Membership of the Marine Corps League represents a wealth of history. Your stories will breathe life into our exhibits. We are very thankful for your support. This partnership will offer more veterans the opportunity to become a part of the League, and join you in the important work you do.
-Jim Williams, Board of Directors, Museum of the Marine

The Museum of the Marine will bring a world-class museum to Jacksonville, North Carolina that will honor the contributions and sacrifices of Marines, their units, their families, and the Carolina communities that support them by making known the personal stories that reflect the courage and dedication that are the hallmarks of our Nation's history.

Memory Zone The Memory Zone

One of the unique features of the museum is the Memory Zone. Inside each of the 3 main galleries, these Memory Zones will provide a place for visiting veterans to record their memories of their time in the Marine Corps. Future visitors, archivists and researchers will then be able to access edited versions of the clips at adjacent touch screens. And those leaving their oral histories will be able to make a DVD to take home.

The Marine Corps League's logo will be proudly displayed on each Memory Zone, and each DVD Oral History that is purchased by a museum visitor will included a MCL advertisement and direct web link to the League's website.

Each Detachment that meets its fundraising goal will also have its name etched on the outside of one of the 3 Memory Zones in the Museum.

Any Detachment that meets its 2008 fundraising goal by December 31, 2008 will receive a Museum of the Marine/MCL 2008 challenge coin for each of its participating members.

Fundraising goals for each Detachment have been determined by your leadership, and are based on detachment membership. This program began in September 2007, and will run through our projected opening date in November 2010.

Detailed information on the sponsorship program and the 2008 Challenge Coin is listed below. Each Detachment's goal has been set based on the membership of your Detachment as of September 1, 2007. The breakdown of the sponsorship cost per member is $25 per year for 3 years.

Each Detachment that meets its 2008 goal by December 31st, 2008 will receive a 2008 Museum of the Marine/Marine Corps League Challenge Coin for each of their participating members. This Limited Edition coin has been created in honor of the Marine Corps League to show our gratitude for your support of the Museum of the Marine.

We have created a special section on our website for the MCL. We will update the site with each MCL Detachment that has turned in money, and where they are on reaching their goal. Please use the formula below to determine your Detachment goal. You may send in money monthly, or hold it until your annual goal is reached. Keep in mind that the 2008 goal amount must be received by the museum by December 31st 2008 for each of your participating members to receive the 2008 challenge coin. How you divide the annual goal for your Detachment is up to your Membership. You can choose to run a fundraiser (like the Marine Roses) to meet your goal each year, or you can ask your members to participate individually. Choose a method that has worked successfully in the past.
